How Fight Paperwork Began—and Where It’s Headed

May 15, 2025

We launched the beta of Fight Paperwork in April 2025, but the spark came earlier. Like many of our users, we started with frustration—watching patients and providers hit wall after wall trying to get insurance to cover care. That frustration turned into action: first with Fight Health Insurance (FHI) for patients, and now with Fight Paperwork for providers.

This post is our way of welcoming you (yes, you!) to what we’re building, and showing you how far we've already come.

Step One: Helping Patients

In Aug 2024, we launched Fight Health Insurance, a simple tool that helps everyday people appeal denied insurance claims. Since then, it’s helped thousands of people submit appeals across major insurers. We heard stories of $1,000 bills turned into $20 co-pays, approvals happening the next day, and most of all—relief.

But while helping patients, we noticed a bigger problem: professionals were stuck too. And they didn’t have time to go spelunking through PDFs and writing appeals by hand.

Enter Fight Paperwork: Built for Professionals

Fight Paperwork launched in beta on April 17th, 2025. It’s a cloud-based platform for healthcare professionals dealing with denied claims. It's not just automation, but active, intelligent support.

Here’s what it does:

  • AI-Powered Appeals: Smart, professional appeals based on denial context and clinical nuance.
  • Centralized Management: One secure place to store and organize all your documentation.
  • Data Extraction: Pull key info from denial letters, EHRs, or PDFs.
  • Team Collaboration: Share progress, loop in team members, even patients.

We kept it in beta because we know healthcare is messy. Some parts are still manual. But it works—and it's improving fast.

What We’ve Launched Since Then

  • Doughnut (May 2025): A chat-based interface that makes writing appeals feel less like work, and more like teamwork. You explain your rationale, it turns it into a great appeal.
  • Smarter AI: Our upgraded model knows more about what works, thanks to thousands of real-world denials. It understands tone, structure, and how to push back effectively.
  • Expanded Support: We’ve improved practice setup tools and streamlined workflows based on your feedback—with much more to come.

Why We Built This

We’re a small, scrappy team mostly based in San Francisco, and we’ve been in the insurance trenches ourselves—from car accidents to complex diagnoses. We don’t want AI to make denial systems faster; we want to make appeals easier. More human. More fair.

As our CEO Holden put it: "This is our commitment to empowering professionals who are fighting not just for reimbursement—but for their patients."

We’re proud of what we've built so far. We’re even prouder of what it’s already helping people do.

What’s Next?

We’re continuing to expand what Fight Paperwork can do:

  • Better integration with patient data
  • Deeper insights into what wins appeals
  • Faster turnaround and smarter workflows

And we’re still listening. If you’re a provider, a practice admin, or even just paperwork-curious, we want to hear from you.
